hIOmon WMI Browser Screen Shots -
 File I/O Summary Display Examples

Product Info

The hIOmon WMI Browser includes several "File I/O Summary" displays (which require the hIOmon "Summarized Data Licensing Option"); these displays give you a complete but concise file-level view of your file I/O activity in real-time.  The displays provide a summarized profile of the file I/O operations observed and monitored by the hIOmon I/O Monitor in accordance with the selected Filter Selection.

Supporting a comprehensive set of vital file I/O performance metrics (including minimum, average, and maximum response times; I/O Operations per Second (IOPS); data transfer sizes and rates; system file cache metrics; random/sequential access percentages; queue lengths, idle times and more), the hIOmon WMI Browser File I/O Summary displays let you easily see the actual I/O performance of your individual files on a file-level basis.  This hIOmon feature allows you to finally answer, at a glance with empirical data, the question: "How fast are your files?™"

The following screen shots show two examples of the File I/O Summary displays provided by the hIOmon WMI Browser.  The first example shows the real-time summarized file I/O operation performance metrics for a specific file; note that a similar display for a specific Device Summary is also supported.  The second example shows the real-time summarized file I/O operation performance metrics on a "Top Ten Files" basis and in a requested sort sequence; note that similar displays for "Top Ten Devices" and "Top Ten Processes" are also supported.

NOTE:

In addition to its WMI Browser support, hIOmon also features support for other client interfaces, including the hIOmon Presentation Client, the hIOmon Windows® Performance/System Monitor support, and the hIOmon CLI support.  And besides support for standard Excel standard charting/graphing functions, the hIOmon software package includes "hIOmon Add-Ons" that provide hIOmon Excel Template/Macros for easily and quickly generating Microsoft® Office Excel Pivot Tables/Charts.

Performance Metrics for a Specific FILE

File Name List

As shown in the screen shot above, the hIOmon WMI Browser "File Performance Metrics" menu option display shows that the "C:\pagefile.sys" file is one of 826 files that are available at the selected hIOmon Manager (running upon the server called "hyperIO1") for which the hIOmon I/O Monitor currently has summarized file I/O operation performance metrics.  The drop-down box below the "Get File Name List" button includes the names of these 826 files.

Selected File I/O Operation Performance Metrics Display Table

The hIOmon WMI Browser "File Performance Metrics" menu display includes the option to display selected summarized file I/O operation performance metrics for a particular file.  You can use the "Add Metric to Table" button to explicitly add particular file I/O operation performance metrics of interest to the display table.  You can also use the "Add File to Table" button to add those particular files of interest that are to be included within the display table.

As shown in the screen shot above, the "C:\pagefile.sys" file has been added to the display table.  The "Idle Time Percent" metric has also been explicitly added to the display table (the Read and Write I/O operation counts, amount of data transferred, and average response time metrics are included within the display table by default).

The "Get Metrics" button can be used to refresh the display table (i.e., update the table contents with the most recent metric values).  Note that metric values that have changed are highlighted in bold.

"Top Ten Files" Performance Metrics

Top Ten Files Display

As shown in the screen shot above, the hIOmon WMI Browser "Top Ten Files" menu option display can be used to show the names of the current "Top Ten Files" based upon a particular sort order sequence that you can choose (with more than 190 sort order sequences available); an explanation of the selected sort order sequence is included within the display.  In addition to the specific sort order sequence, you can also select whether the sort order is to be in ascending order (with descending order the default) along with the particular file I/O operation performance metrics of interest that are to be included within the display table (e.g., the count of Read I/O operations has been explicitly added to the display table in the example above).  A multiple sort-order sequence option is also supported.

The "Refresh" button can be used to refresh the display table (i.e., update the table contents with the most recent metric values).  Note that metric values that have changed are highlighted in bold.

To display other files (within the same sort order sequence) beyond the initial "Top Ten", simply enter the desired starting number in the input box provided.  For example, to display the next ten top files (that is, the next ten files immediately below the top ten files), you can enter a starting number value of 11; this will result in files eleven (11) through twenty (20) being displayed within the table.  The starting number value enables you to display the other files below the top ten based upon your requested sort order.

Sort Order Sequence Options

The hIOmon WMI Browser "Top Ten" displays allow you to request a particular sort order sequence; more than 190 sort order sequences are supported including the following (note that "SystemCache" represents "System Cache Metrics" and "PhyDev" represents "Physical Device Extended Metrics"):
