BOULDER, Colorado — August 27, 2009 — hyperI/O LLC, the file and disk I/O performance monitoring expert, announced today that the new release of its industry-leading hIOmon™ File I/O Performance Monitor software now includes support for the Intel® "NAS Performance Toolkit (NASPT)", enabling NASPT users to easily and quickly capture "I/O trace" operation information specific to their particular applications in everyday usage and to automatically export this information into trace input files that can be directly used (without conversion) by the NASPT tools. "The focus of the Intel NASPT is upon user-level performance using real world workload traces," said Tom West, President of hyperI/O LLC. "With its 'application focus' and comprehensive I/O operation trace collection capabilities, hIOmon is a perfect complement to the NASPT tools for readily analyzing user-relevant performance measurement comparisons amongst a variety of storage devices." The latest hIOmon release includes the new hIOmon "INASPT Support Add-On", which lets NASPT users easily and quickly configure the hIOmon software to capture "I/O trace" operation information for the specific files (and optionally processes) of particular interest to them. Moreover, the empirical I/O trace operation information collected by hIOmon can reflect the actual file and device I/O operation activity generated by their very own applications during normal use. In addition, this new hIOmon Add-On allows NASPT users to easily configure the hIOmon software so that the I/O trace operation information collected by hIOmon is written/exported in real-time to a disk file within the XML trace input file format that is required by the NASPT tools. In turn, this export file can be used directly (without conversion) as a NASPT trace input file for both the NASPT Analyzer and the NASPT Exerciser tools. Users, including consumers as well as developers, can exploit the powerful combination of the hIOmon software and the Intel NASPT to conveniently evaluate how their particular applications actually make use of their specific disk storage, based upon empirical file I/O operation performance metrics and in an easy-to-use and understandable fashion. hIOmon Benefits hIOmon is a software utility package that provides a variety of benefits, including the ability to better diagnose and understand disk storage access performance problems, to verify and ensure that the required levels of performance (Quality-of-Service) are being met at the specific file/application level, to evaluate emerging storage technologies (e.g., iSCSI, SATA, flash-based SSD, etc.) and proposed improvements to the performance of computer systems, and to help reduce storage management costs. Especially with its included support for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), end-users, integrators and Independent Software Vendors alike find it easy to interface with hIOmon. "Out-of-the-box" features also include a Java™-based GUI, an Internet Explorer GUI in addition to CLI support, alert capabilities with System Event Log support, both I/O trace and automatically summarized/aggregated metrics upon an individual, specific file, device, and process/application basis together with both real-time and replay display modes, along with support for both the Windows Performance and System Monitors and several CSV-file export capabilities Users/applications armed with the extensive set of file and device I/O performance metrics that only hIOmon provides can validate and continually verify that those steps taken to maximize disk storage utilization and performance are indeed of benefit. Such steps include identifying "hot files" and moving files around the storage hierarchy, SAN, NAS, etc. to improve performance by making the best use of newly purchased hardware or without spending IT dollars upon new hardware. Use hIOmon, "The I/O Speedometer and Odometer for your Files, Devices, and Applications"™, to help identify those files best suited for SSD, RAM disk and other higher performance disk solutions. Substantiate the benefits in terms of actual performance metrics specific to key files and the associated applications. With its many features and capabilities (along with an efficient architecture), hIOmon answers the question: "How fast are your files?"™ in terms of a variety of metrics, including response time, I/O count, I/O rate, data transfer rate, system file cache "hit" and "miss" counts/percentages, queue depth and idle time, random/sequential access detection, physical device I/O activity plus real-time, metric-based file/device/process "Top Ten" list sorts and more. hIOmon Availability and Pricing The hIOmon File I/O Performance Monitor (a Licensed Software package available only from hyperI/O LLC) currently supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. hIOmon has also successfully met the IBM® specifications for validation as "Ready for IBM Tivoli software". Pricing for hIOmon starts at under $100 (USD), with volume discounts and technical support packages available. A free 30-day, full-function/full-feature evaluation copy of hIOmon can be downloaded at the hyperI/O LLC web site (www.hyperIO.com), along with full documentation, overview presentation, screen shots and white paper.
